SINTESI PERSONALE
Il 16 gennaio 2009, nel corso di una "tregua umanitaria" durante l' Operazione Piombo Fuso a Gaza, tre membri della famiglia Shurrab (il padre e i suoi due figli) stavano tornando dai loro campi a casa a Khan Younis. I miltari del posto di blocco li lasciarono passare, ma i soldati posizionati nelle vicinanze aprirono il fuoco contro la loro jeep a 40 metri di distanza.
Fino a questo punto l'incidente potrebbe essere visto come un incidente dovuto alla mancanza di coordinamento tra le forze israeliane.
Ma la storia non finisce qui.
A causa degli spari il conducente della jeep perse il controllo del veicolo che andò a schiantarsi contro il muro . I soldati si avvicinarono alla jeep e ordinarono ai tre di uscire . Ubbidirono e i soldati spararono . Uno dei fratelli morì sul colpo, mentre l'altro rimase ferito a una gamba. I soldati non permisero a una ambulanza palestinese di evacuare il padre e il figlio ferito. Rimase così senza soccorso per 23 ore. Il figlio morì dissanguato il giorno seguente.
La sparatoria è stato un crimine di guerra e un atto di crudeltà quasi incomprensibile nei confronti di civili innocenti che non costituivano un pericolo per la vita dei soldati. La vittima che è sopravvissuta, tramite i sue avvocati , ha chiesto al ministero della Difesa israeliana di aprire un'inchiesta, ma la loro richiesta è stata negata:"Non abbiamo i mezzi per indagare e ricostruire qualsiasi incidente nonché di confermare o negare ogni informazione che ci perviene."
Ma la vittima fastidiosa non ha mollato .
Ha intentato una causa civile alla Corte di Haifa contro lo Stato di Israele. Sorprendentemente lo stato ha raggiunto un accordo con coloro che diffondano accuse del sangue contro i soldati israeliani e ha pagan 430.000 NIS (circa $ 109.000) a titolo di risarcimento. Questo non è male considerando il fatto che, dopo il massacro di Kafr Qasem (durante il quale, come a Khan Younis, persone disarmate sono state uccise a distanza ravvicinata mentre stavano tornando a casa dai loro campi) la persona responsabile è stato condannata a pagare la simbolica multa di un agorà. I know that the members of the Shurrab family are not Jewish, but let's make it an exception in this case and conduct the ceremony anyway. After all, it was not we who spilled this blood.
